Isabel English
Residency Announcement
September 2024
Isabel English’s recent work has developed from an interest in material culture and its relationship to clothing and garment construction, with a particular awareness to the confluence between the architectural body of the home and the concealing/protective nature of clothing. Her research whilst on residency at Flat Time House will consider the legacy of Artist Placement Group (APG) in engaging with industrial processes – in particular how instinctual needs are manifested within production techniques. This will be investigated within the context of the house as a conceptual tool, as well as Latham’s idea of the Body Event.
Isabel English is a visual artist and lecturer based in Dublin, Ireland. Since completing an MFA in Fine Art Practice at the National College of Art and Design, English has taken part in the show Fly Floor (2023) – an exhibition in association with the Irish Tour of Ireland at Venice – curated by Mark O’Gorman and Niamh O’Malley. Following this, English was awarded a Technical Development Residency from Leitrim Sculpture Centre and received a Visual Arts Bursary Award from the Arts Council of Ireland. This year, she was awarded the inaugural Emerging Visual Artist Award from Cork County Council, culminating in a solo show at the LHQ Gallery, Cork in September 2025. Along with this, she is developing work for a solo show at GOMA Gallery, Waterford, to take place in early 2025.
