Athanasios Argianas is presenting new audio-visual work at Mackintosh Lane, developed as part of an ongoing residency at Flat Time House. Flat Time House will host a major exhibition of Argianas' work in winter 2026–27.

Flat Time House Director/Curator Gareth Bell-Jones will be presenting on as part of a six-part international virtual series spotlighting 20+ historic artist homes and studios, their programs, and the contemporary artists they support across the US and Europe. Presented by Historic Artists Homes (US) & Studios and Artist’s Studio Museum Network (UK).

Flat Time House's current artist-in-residence is Søren Rye. Søren will spend his time at FTHo working in the studio and exploring the archive, while continuing ongoing research at the Warburg Institute on the relationship between artworks and their photographic reproduction. He is particularly interested in what photographic documentation cannot convey, and how this absence creates space for projection and narrative. Søren will move between the Warburg Institute and Flat Time House, both organisations sharing a commitment to experimentation, though they work with knowledge through different traditions.

The life and work of Barbara Steveni (1928–2020), who described herself as an artist–activist, embodied an archive and pioneered a diffused art practice that resists clear definition. Invisible threads interlink the various roles she played in the contexts within which she was situated and responding to. As with other women artists of her generation she combined childrearing and managing domestic chores with the production of work, and was frequently overshadowed by her male partner’s success. The importance of Steveni’s role in the Artist Placement Group (APG) was often marginalised by gender-inflected terms such as ‘honorary secretary’, her practice was rarely recognised as having a value in its own right. The exhibition I Find Myself intends to redress this imbalance and encompass her life’s work, drawing together her practice and her experimentation with materials, media and strategies across a career spanning more than seventy years.

I Find Myself, co-curated by Jo Melvin and FTHo Curator/Director Gareth Bell-Jones was first presented at Modern Art Oxford in 2025.

To celebrate the practices and individuals supported by the Chelsea Arts Club Trust, Flat Time House is hosting a salon exhibition of work by recent awardees. This is to coincide with the first-ever residency at Flat Time House for a Chelsea Arts Club Trust award recipient, which was awarded to artist Katie Shannon in Summer 2025.

Flat Time House is delighted to collaborate with AICA-UK and AICA France to support a residency exchange for art critics who are members of AICA, the International Association of Art Critics. The residency is organised in partnership with Maison d’Art Bernard Anthonioz (MABA), Nogent-sur-Marne in the eastern suburbs of Paris, who will host a resident from the UK branch of AICA, with FTHo hosting a writer from AICA France.

Chelsea Arts Club Trust award recipient Katie Shannon will be in residence at Flat Time House this summer. This is the first-ever residency at Flat Time House for a Chelsea Arts Club Trust awardee, an opportunity for a recent graduate artist to engage with Flat Time House as a space for dialogue and experimentation. 

Katie Shannon is an artist based between Glasgow and London, working across drawing, installation, printmaking, textiles, writing, performance, curation, music and collaborative formats. Her practice centres on the event as medium, exploring temporalities, collective intimacy, and states of energetic unrest. Rooted in a socialist, feminist, and materially led approach, her work navigates themes of class, sociality, and counter-culture, using repurposed or ‘low’ materials, laborious processes, and printmaking as means of dissemination to propose alternative economies of making and meaning.

The Reader includes conversations, texts, photos, statements, reflections and a graphic story on the necessary destruction of artworks; vulnerability and death; catharsis and joy; restorative practice; ghosts of our youth, and archives of neglect.

Flat Time House are pleased to announce that Elisabeth Del Prete will be undertaking an AHRC-funded PhD at Birmingham City University, working in partnership with Eastside Projects and FTHo to examine how the ideas and models developed by Artist Placement Group (APG) (1966-89) are both relevant today, and to future possibilities for the role of artists in society. 

Elisabeth’s research will evaluate contemporary experimental art projects, exploring how principles of regenerative design can generate new understandings of the impact of APG’s approach. Drawing on regenerative design as a method that acknowledges the interconnectedness and co-evolving nature of living systems (social, political, economic and natural), the research will ask how APG's motto “context is half the work” can be expanded upon to evaluate contemporary reworkings and inform future modes of creative practice.

Flat Time House is pleased to announce that artist Eloise Hawser will be undertaking a studio residency at Flat Time House in partnership with Knotenpunkt. The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition at FTHo in 2025, in addition to a new commission to be presented as part of I Find Myself, a Barbara Steveni retrospective upcoming at Modern Art Oxford. Drawing from her longstanding interest in the materiality of modern life, Eloise has been invited to undertake original research into Barbara Steveni's collection of studio materials – specifically over a decade's worth of newspapers – with a focus on Barbara's home-studio in Anstey Road Peckham as a site of artistic production, conversation, and reflection on past endeavours.

Working in partnership with UP Projects and Deveron Projects, the Constellations ° Cohort 2023 will be taking part in a paid week-long group residency in Huntly, Aberdeenshire. The residency will be an opportunity for the cohort to extend the collaborative work and peer to peer learning undertaken during the Constellations programme.

The residency will delve further into the questions, challenges and learnings that have been uncovered over the past months and connect with this through the unique context and organisational practice at Deveron Projects. Through a programme of walks, workshops, meetings and events, the cohort will explore the conditions that both impact the work we do as creative practitioners, and the conditions that we can create, through the process of making artworks collaboratively with communities. From self-actualising communities to thinking like forests, disrupting systems of exchange to care and maintenance, each day of the residency will question what is the role of creative practitioners and artworks in creating social justice and how do we do this work well?

Isabel English’s recent work has developed from an interest in material culture and its relationship to clothing and garment construction, with a particular awareness to the confluence between the architectural body of the home and the concealing/protective nature of clothing. Her research whilst on residency at Flat Time House will consider the legacy of Artist Placement Group (APG) in engaging with industrial processes – in particular how instinctual needs are manifested within production techniques. This will be investigated within the context of the house as a conceptual tool, as well as Latham’s idea of the Body Event.

De-production – First Trimester Mourning Sickness is a limited edition zine crafted as part of Lyónn Wolf’s 2024 residency with Flat Time House. As a way of sharing work in progress, Wolf invited Iarlaith Ní Fheorais, Linda Stupart and Raju Rage to respond to auto theoretical writing that brings states of transformation, popular science fiction and family abolition into weird communion. The zine also includes a contribution from artist, academic, activist, and curator Promona Sengupta. A very limited number of copies are available to purchase online.

The residency, a partnership with Askeaton Contemporary Arts in County Limerick, Ireland, will continue with Wolf’s first UK solo exhibition, taking place at Flat Time House in 2025.
