As a prelude to the Mental Furniture Industry exhibition, Sarah Pierce presents the performance Campus which emerges from Pierce's ongoing interest in the college campus as a space of community predicated on shifting levels of presence and participation. Followed by the launch of Sketches of Universal History Compiled from Several Authors by Sarah Pierce edited by Rike Franke and published by Book Works.

For this version of the performance Campus, Sarah Pierce will open the rehearsal to the public, beginning promptly at 4.30, followed by a book launch at 5.30

Campus is a group performance, first initiated in 2011 involving performers that act out the familiar gestures of political protests along with phrases, such as "Exaggerate! Strengthen! Simplify!" adapted from the one-on-one instruction given to art students during a three dimensional sculpture class. As the instructor moves from student to student ideas about technique and observation merge with other acts that involve 'seeing' and 'doing'.

Sarah's performance will take place in the empty gallery space. The curtains remain as artworks: moving and moveable, structuring space of the exhibition and disappearing into decoration, shifting, pushed aside and blowing in the wind for the duration of the exhibition. The Mental Furniture Industry exhibition opens the following week of 28 June until 4 August.

Sketches of Universal History Compiled from Several Authors by Sarah Pierce edited by Rike Frank presents an interplay of voices, legacies, friendships and influences that make up an art practice. Conceived from a period of collaboration between the artist and curator and writer Rike Frank, with publishers Book Works and The Showroom, the book contains newly commissioned essays by Melissa Gronlund and Tom Holert.
