Mental Furniture Conceptual Yard Sale
14 May 2016 1pm – 5pm
An educational bring and buy sale as part of the closing programme for Flat Time House.
John Latham called education the ‘Mental Furniture Industry’, filling minds with pre-constructed forms. Over the past eight years FTHo’s education programme has taken this as a challenge and a provocation, building collaborative and long lasting relationships with both institutional and independent groups. In order to represent the breadth of education projects FTHo has hosted and instigated, and the number of people who have been part of it, a one-day event on Saturday 14 May will invite all our past participants and partners to contribute to a Mental Furniture Conceptual Yard Sale.
Do you have ideas that you just don’t use any more, concepts that you’ve outgrown, moth-eaten theories gathering dust? Why not give your mental wardrobes and cupboards a clear out and bring it all to the Mental Furniture Conceptual Yard Sale. Not only is this a chance to get rid of some mental tat, but you might stumble upon a bargain! One artist’s junk idea is another one's career defining concept. There will also be drinks and a barbecue.
No objects, just ideas, though space will be made for presentations and performance.
